The presentation explores landscape manifestations in Ivan Salatić's We Are the Sons of Your Rocks (2018) — a short film centered on a Montenegrin villager who believes that the body of a World War II Italian officer is buried near his home. The film conveys landscapes as an interface of the immemorial and the political, an arena where the national confronts the intimate, and a site of ontological uncertainty. By examining its pictorial tropes and ideological underpinnings, I argue that the filmmaker de-ossifies the conventions and valences of landscape representation in historically anchored films.
