Centered on the memories of a former Yugoslav resistance fighter, the nonagenarian Sonja Vujanović, Landscapes of Resistance (2021) pairs her off-screen oral history of partizanke with onscreen topographies related to her life and combats. In her vivid recollections, Vujanović recounts the everyday rather than the heroic, the microhistorical entangled in a macrohistorical event, to slowly dissolving images of depopulated landscapes and various surfaces. This presentation aims to show how the durational, the tactful, and the tactile coalesce in Popivoda's film to propose an aesthetically innovative and ethically sound framing of female Partisan legacies.
